Thankful

I am really grateful for the group members that I had for this project. We gave a lot of time and dedication to making this film. I’m really proud of the outcome. Although, we faced a lot of challenges with the lighting, rearranging our schedule that way we could meet up, and with our actor. We watched a lot of videos on Youtube about the lighting which helps us a bit, but in reality when we were faced with the challenge that’s when we started to move around our lamps so that the shot would be clearer. We were often faced with a challenge when trying to correlate our schedules. Thankfully we got around it and were able to meet to create this amazing project. Our first actor wasn’t gonna be able to meet with us during spring break. One of the group members asked one of her friends, Fabrizio, Who was able to meet with us and was a pretty good actor. He made time for our filming sessions and was serious about doing a good job. We decided to change a sense at the end. We thought that it would be best if instead of filming the hanged up picture we would film him as if he was eating the heart. This was filmed using an over the shoulder shot of him moving the heart towards the camera as if it was his mouth and a close up of the side of his face as he is chewing. I had a lot of fun creating this project with my group members and I hope you guys enjoy it. The link to the video will be on one of my next posts.

First Part of Filming

Hey guys! We are currently in spring break. I'm really glad to have a week off. We met up yesterday to film. I'm really glad that we finished most of the night scenes. We had a little bit of a struggle trying to get an actor. The guy that we had on the first pictures I posted couldn't this week so we had to get someone else to do it. One of the girls in the group contacted her friend, Fabrizio, and he was able to meet with us. We started filming around 10pm and finished around 2:30 am. Today when I woke up i was so tired but we had to meet up in the morning to film the day scenes. I'm gonna leave you guys some pictures that way you can check out how we filmed. We planned on meeting later today to finish the night scenes. This week I'm also gonna try to get part of my CCR done and if not completed at least started. If you guys are on a break too I hope you are having a good time!

So this is what I made

Hey guys! Today I started making the body parts that I told you guys I was going to make. I made the liver which doesn't really look like the liver in the picture that I took. Although, I folded it and put it in the jar and it looked like an organ. Funny story, I have never made slime so when I found the video of the little kid making the liver I still hadn't realized that it was slime, I ended up realizing it when I add the borax and water into the glue and saw the in-person effect. One of my friends loves to make slime but I never really did it, so I didn't know until I did it for this project. The worse part of all is that she gave me a little kit to make slime for my birthday besides the gift card and box with inspirational quotes, but I never used the kit cause it looked cute so I didn't want to touch it. I was gonna make the intestines but I decided to untangle the strings of marshmallows I was making. Instead, I decided to bundle them up and smash them. Basically, what was going through my head at that time was that it kinda looked like guts or like a brain, which would look cool and weird in the video. I'm sorry if the picture of the marshmallow makes you uncomfortable! The jars in the picture are filled with the blood that we are gonna spread around them. The liver is the slime which we will be cutting. :)

Fake intestines

Hey guys! The other part of the body that we thought about doing was the intestines. I came across a video on youtube that is similar to what I wanted it to look like. I'm gonna post it on this blog post that way if you are ever in the mood to make fake intestines, just know you can come here and take a look at the video I found. Enjoy!

The fake liver

One of the organs that I'm gonna have to make is the liver. I have been researching how to make a fake liver and I will be posting the videos that I came across with. The liver has no meaning behind it. We just decided to do it. We wanted to make sure we have different parts of the body in the film. These are some of the videos.

If I choose to do this liver, I will be just painting it a dark red. I will not be detailing the parts like the Vena cava, Portal vein, Hepatic Artery, or the Gallbladder.

Lava Lamps are a no go!

Hey guys! my group and I thought about it and we decided not to the lava lamps. What we decided to do instead is use the red and black dye and smear it around the mason jars, that is going to make it look as if it was dried up blood. This will give the viewers an idea that he has done this before. I think we are going to have to put it in the fridge so the "blood" can appear to be dried up. Here is a picture of how we want it to look like.

We filmed today!

Hey guys, we finally did it! We started filming. Although, we may not be using the videos that we were able to film today because we want to change something in the setting. I will be posting some of the videos that we will actually be putting in our final project. Right now we messed around with the lighting and we got a good idea of what to do so that the video comes out just like we want it. I will leave you guys some pictures of how we set up the garage. I think it was a really productive day for all of us. We also got to do the blood for the scenes and the heart that will be "taken out of her".

Schedule

Our schedules this week were a little hard to correlate. We will definitely have to meet next week to start shooting the videos and start the editing process. This week we decided what our title was gonna be and we also finished our storyboard. My teacher showed us some samples of CCR's so next week I'm going to try my best to get ahead on that. I feel like it would be best if I start now rather than later. My spring break is coming up next week and we are going to try to get most of the project done during that time. I hope you guys are having a nice weekend! Talk to you guys soon!
Title

We came up with Blood Date as our title. We are still messing around will the font of the letters to see which one would look better. The colors that we will definitely be implementing is red and white. We want to cross out the title seconds after it is displayed. We feel that it will add a lot of curiosity and horror in the film.

I posted three pictures of how the title of some, of the horror movies that I liked, looked like.

Addition to storyboard

We finished our story Storyboard! We are super excited to start filming and editing. I'm gonna list each shot and explain them to you guys.

Number 14 is a low angle medium shot of the murderer putting the heart in the jar. The audience will be able to see what specific organ was picked from the victim. The organ will have something to do with the story of why each victim got killed.

Number 15 is a close up of the murder's hand opening the fridge door. This is going to show how the murder preserves most of these organs.

Number 16 is a close-up of the heart being up in the fridge. The camera will be on the inside for this shot. The audience will kinda be able to see the murders but he will be wearing a mask.

Number 17 This shot is right after the fridge door is closed. The whole screen will go black and the title in red and white letters will come on screen. It will say Blood Date (crossed out).

Number 18 Is going to be a "5 months before" scene of the girl in her kitchen getting lunch ready. We will try to show a sneak peek of what their life was like.

Groups input

Hey guys! So, today is my birthday! I’m super happy. So, today we meet up in groups and talked to other groups about our ideas and such. I had a really good time. We shared a lot of input with each other. We really like meeting with other people that way we can acquire knowledge on a lot of things. We basically talked about everything.

Here are some things they suggested:

If my group and I wanted to create the blood for the video that we should use chocolate syrup and dye it red.

If we wanted to create the sound of the heart being ripped out, we should buy tomatoes and peppers and record the sounds of us eating them.

They also suggested watching Dark Tourist.

One of my peers read my post and suggested to go to a website called Grammarly. This website helps correct any errors in spelling, grammar, and more.

Lighting details

I decided to go on YouTube and search for lighting videos. The videos that i posted on this blog post have really informed me on how to use lighting on dark spaces and how manipulating lighting may help create a different type of feeling on the film. We don't have as good of resources that some of these video are able to provide but i think that by using some of the lamps that i have around the house i will be able to manipulate the lighting is the scenes that we film. The first video that is displayed showed me how to pull of good lighting on a low budget. Some of the things that i saw him use i have around my house, so that is good.  These videos have taught me that putting the light towards the wall or towards a poster board can have a good effect on the lighting of the room, so that is something that i will definitely be trying. This information is going to be very useful when we start filming in the garage. Hopefully now that we have these video we won't be running into lighting issues.

Twitter Idea

Hey guys, this weekend i was scrolling through twitter and saw a video of kids making lava lamps. I decided that the lava lamps really resembled the idea that i had for where the murderer would keep the body parts. I have a feeling that it is going to look great in the video. I like the sciency effect that is gives the water. I will be leaving you guys a video of how to make these lava lamps  from scratch. We will be keeping these body parts in mason jars. I also really like how they are going to look in the darkish lighting that we are going to have in the garage.  I will also be updating you guys as to what my group thinks of this idea.

Additions to Storyboard

Hey guys! We met up this week and added scenes to our storyboard. We decided as a group to change the story from a stalker person to him just being full on cannibalistic. We think going that route is going to help us come up with a film that is different from what is usually seen. I hope you guys enjoy the additions we have made to our storyboard.

Number 10 This scene is going to be a close-up of the murderer grabbing the victim's jar. We plan on showing this so the audience can see how he had it planned out. The other jars next to it will too have names of different people, this will show that he keep his victims parts a way to remember them.

Number 11 This scene involves a medium shot of the murderer looking diagonally upwards. This scene will help us transition to a picture of the victim and of his other victims.

Number 12 This scene shows a close-up of the victim's picture and of it being grabbed. This shot was created to get the audience more involved in the murderer's world. By doing this shot the audience will get a feeling as if they are closer to the murderer, since they are able to see things through his eyes.

Number 13 This is a close-up of the victim's picture and it being crossed out. This shows how he has "gotten the job done". This also shows that the murderer is emotionless, he is able to do that to a person and makes it look like its some regular task that he has.

Number 14 We didn't have time to finish drawing this one but we will be doing a low angle medium shot of the murderer putting the heart in the jar. This will show what type of body part the murderer decided to get from his victim.

Schedule

Hey Guys! I hope you guys are having a really nice week. I just took my first SAT test today. I think it went well and lets just hope it did. I met up with my group on Tuesday and we started talking about the things we need do for our film. We decided that we needed to research more things about human cannibalism, that way we can portrait more of their traits in our film. We also need to figure out the lighting situation, so i will be researching that too. Specially since we are going to be filming in a garage and we need the lighting to be able to see our character really well but still make the background of the character dark. Another thing we want to research is how to make the water were the organs are going to be on gooe. I will be post the research soon and another picture of the scenes we have added to our story board. I truly don't understand how people can eat human parts.. I get pale just by seeing human blood. Yikes..

Upcoming!

This upcoming week my group and I are going to try finishing up the storyboard. As soon as we get that done i will post a picture of the new one and the changes we made to it.  We also want to start getting all the materials we need for the film that way we can start filming. I will try to keep you guys updated as much as i can during each process. I want to start researching ways that we can film in dim lighting and still get all the characters movements seen clearly. I want to find some type of coloring to make the water look cool and scientific where we are keeping the fake human parts in. Another section of the film we should start looking at is the music that it going to be played during this scene. I hope to find a song that goes with the film by providing an edgy and suspensive vibe.
Feedback!

We had a group meeting this week. In this group meeting i got to meet with my other classmates and discuss what we think of eachothers progress. I shared with them the ideas that we had for the storyboard and they also looked at my blog posts. My classmates told me that they really liked how informative my blog postings were but that i should start spacing out the writing a bit more. I think they are right so I’m gonna start spacing out my writing, which in reality makes it a nicer reading experience. I also decided to change the background of my blog site.
One of my classmates told me that for Horror films the key thing is to build suspense. She also gave me some cool ideas like putting some bloody towels covering the body. She told me to look at scream, which is a really well establish horror clip. They told me that it could be hard to make it look like the guy is pulling out the heart and that we should try to go a different route like having it out already. They thought that it would be cool if we did a pan movement through the jar and emphasize on the heart by zooming into it. I plan on sharing this feedback with my group and making some changes to the storyboard. Im gonna leave you guys a link to Scream (1996) in case you can't open the video.

Storyboard Time!

Hey guys! So my group and I started to work on our story board. I’m gonna leave you guys with a picture of the clips that we have thought about. I really hope you guys like. We are trying to putting in shots that are usually seen in a horror film. As you can see under each clip there is a description of what types of shots are being used and what filming process. There will be a lot of panning movements. We are planning on showing the names of the producers were it says “name”.

So for number 1 we want to show the title of the movie at the door. We thought about it appearing in bold with blood dripping off it.

Number 2 is going to be him turning on the light and the name of one of the producers appearing were it was “name”. This shot is going to be displayed on mid shot which means only showing half of his body. He will also be wearing a black hoodie.

Number 3 is going to be a close-up of his feet he is going to be walking into the garage. As he steps into the garage we were thinking on putting the title on the floor and the feet crushing it.

Number 4 is a long shot of the dead body that way the audience can get an idea of what is occuring in the garage. They are gonna see a dead women there with blood all over her and the floor.

Number 5 this is a continuation of number 4, the guy  will walk into the long shot frame.

Number 6 in a medium shot of the murder placing his hand in the body.

Number 7 will be shown in a low angle and its going to be a close-up of the heart being held. This is metaphoric for the way she broke his heart.

Number 8 He will proceed to a table in the garage. This shot is gonna be an over the shoulder shot of him placing the heart in a jar.

Number 9 will show a panning movement across the table. There will be different jar with different type of body parts and the heart will be in the middle of all these jars.

We plan on getting the fake heart and body part from Amazon. We are really trying to get body parts that look realistic. We plan on getting the fake blood from Party city. We struggled a little with where to film the scenes because my friends in the group don’t have a fridge in their garage but i do. So we are going to do the fridge part in my garage and do the scenes of the girl and the jars and table in another garage, because i don’t really have space in my to put a table and the girl laying down. We also have to find a way to put some dim lighting so it can get a creepy/scary vibe but have to still be able to show the characters movement really well.

Its happening! We started!

Hey Guys! So this week was the first week that i meet up with my group. We decided on basing our film opening on a Horror genre. I’m so thankful that on my last post I decided to do a lot of research on what it takes to make a horror film. We decided to base our ideas on three really good shows and film such as You, Quantico, and The purge. You is a netflix original it has been getting great ratings since its release. The first day i started to watch it, i couldn’t stop, I really recommend it. You has a great mix of stereotypes. It involved a guy who meets a girl and starts to stalk her every move. I won’t make any other comments because I don’t want to ruin it for you. We plan on bringing quantico into the equation because of the way the story is displayed on most of its episodes. What we loved about the purge were the mask and the edgy effect it has on its watchers. How we plan on mixing these three authentic shows and films you may ask? Well we hope on creating a film opening that shows this creepy stalker and how he kills a girl that he liked. We want to tell the story in a sequence that is similar to the one of quantico. Such as starting from the last scene of the movie. We want to show the killer in the garage and have some cool type of story play out. I will keep you guys updated as to what happens next!

I'll gonna leave you guys some pictures of the two shows and the film. You can find Quantico and You on Netflix. The Purge is on Amazon prime.

Research and planning

Hey guys! So in this second post i will be information you guys about character ideas for Horror films. A female role is really important in a horror film. Female victim display vulnerability and are usually in need of protecting. The female that are usually shown are young, blonde and attractive. These types of female characteristics appeal to the male audience of the spectrum. Blonde women are often portrayed in roles that entice the character to act stupid and annoying. She usually won’t be the first to be killed but may be the next. There is almost always a character that goes against what is believed. This character is most of the time male. Their role is to be easy-going, they make the other character feel as if they are being dramatic about whatever is taking place. This character is used to give the audience some ease. Another role that is essential is the hero of the story. This character is often played by a male, this male usually has a strong physique. Although, some of the horror film companies have been defying this believe and have been portraying the hero of the film as a women. The Hero’s are not ones to share that much of their emotions they usually want to appear strong and supportive. Another character that can be often seen is a distraught character. This character most of the time is a women. She doesn’t want to leave the place where she is at, which can lead to her being killed or be put in a really dangerous position. Her break downs may lead to chasing, chaos, and often suspenseful for the audience. The evil character is often shown as serial killer, possessed, ghosts,or  monsters. They usually are wearing a mask. If they are ever injured the will react to it in a psychopathic way. They have the biggest impact of the audience because they are what creates most of the suspense in a horror film. Most of the time there is a couple or two people that really like each other. They are usually intimate when something bad occurs to them. This can make the audience be on the edge of their seats. Colors that are usually seen on Horror films are Dark Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Light blue, Dark purple, and pink. In Horror Films Dark Red can symbolize anger, violence, and aggression. Orange has a warning and caution effect. Yellow brings betrayal, jealousy, danger, and judgement. Green can symbolize survival or a new beginning. Blue is recognized as reality and sanity. Purple expresses a seductive and alluring effect. Pink can be used to show the childish love that two characters have. All of this information will allow us to correctly pick of what the actors in our film will wear and what are the most convenient colors to display around the room. This research also informs us as to how many people there should be on the film and what are the most important character that must be shown in Horror films. I am sure that if we choose to proceed with a Horror film we will be able to use this information wisely to compose a well Horror genre film. I’ll keep you guys updated!!

Research and planning

Hey guys! On this blog post i decided to inform you guys about the Horror genre. I have spent the day researching things about the Horror genre that I want to share with you guys. The horror genre consists of creating a suspenseful, surprising, confusing, and scary setting. Making the audience anxious and scared as to what will occur next. The targeted audience usually tends to be around their 15-25 years of age. This genre is so indulged in a young targeted audience because of the thrill that most young adult and teenagers get from it. The camera shots seen in horror films are close-ups, tracking shots, mid shot, long shot, dolly shot, extreme close up, high-angle shots, zooming out, zooming in, All of these shots are commonly seen in horror movies. Close-ups are usually seen on objects or the actors face, they usually try to display the actor’s emotions.Tracking shots helps the audience feel as if they are going right behind the character, these shots help the movie draw its audience in to the setting. Mid-shot shows only up to the actors hip, which is seen when the character is walking somewhere or standing. Long shots are used to show the whole body expression and to show the audience the setting where the actor is at. Dolly shots is when the person taking the shot is on a cart that is able to move along a straight placed tracks. This shot is used when the producers want to zoom in but want to make it feel more suspenseful. Extreme close-up is used to express an emotion. High-angles shows inferiority. Editing is also an important technique when its comes to horror films. Horror films usually use techniques such as cross cutting and jump-cuts. Cross-cutting help the producers guide the audience attention to where they want it to be not where the audience wants it to be. This can sometimes help create more of the suspense. Jump-cuts shows a series of shots right after another. Sound of horror films involves sounds that most of the audience can relate to in distress. When directors want to produce a horror film that involves a monster they tend to gather different animal sounds and play them all at once and may sometimes even play it backwards. King kong’s famous scream involves a mix of tigers and lions all being payed at once and they were played backwards. Sound effects are usually loud and off cutting such as screaming, machine saws, ex. Lighting also plays a crucial part on creating horror films. Candle lights are said to be good at creating a scary environment specially because the audience is not able to see anything other than the actor. Backlighting is good too because it obscures what is right in front of us.I hope to use this research that I have gathered when doing my portfolio project. This research will guide us as to what we should use to create a suspenseful setting. If my group and I decide to do a film based on the horror genre it will involve the techniques that I have mention on this blog-post.

Some recent Horror Films are: Halloween (2018), A Quiet Place(2018), Truth or Dare (2018), and The Nun (2018).

Sunday, February 17, 2019

Helloo! I wanted to update you guys as to what i have been working on these past few weeks. My Aice Media teacher assigned a project were we had to go in team of 3-4 member and make a marketing and distribution plan for a new up and coming artist. My group and I worked on social media sites, websites, videos, and merchandise. We thought that these would be a great strategic plan to widely spread the presence of a new artist. Before everything we made some case studies to understand what pop rock audiences are looking for and how the bands became known.
The two case studies that my group worked on were Muse and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. These two groups fall under a well known music company named Warner Bros Record. The Warner Bros is a subdivision of The Warner Brother Studios. The music company was founded in March 19, 1958. They are currently focused on music like pop, hip hop and rock music. Muse has recorded around 8 albums and evolved in the late 90s with alternative rock. In 2010, they received a best rock album award for their album “Resistance” and again in 2015 for their “Drones” album. Some of their distribution techniques are CD’s, DVD’s and streaming services like : itunes, Youtube, Soundcloud, Amazon Music, and spotify. Muse also sells merchandise which is available on their website. The Red Hot Chili Peppers is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1983. They have sold over 60 million albums worldwide. They have created around 19 albums. One of their methods of distribution is doing shows. Their current hit songs are “Go Robot” (2016), “Goodbye Angel”(2016), and “Sick Love” (2016). They also sell merchandise on their website. They marketed an interactive music video where the viewer is engaged in controlling the camera. Each time the viewer watches the video, they get to focus on different aspects of the band and video. This is a great marketing technique to get a lot of views on their videos. Their music is available in Youtube, Apple music, Spotify, Deezer, Pandora, Play music, iHeartRadio and Tunein. This information allowed us to think of similar strategies that would allow us to take our artist to another level. We came to the conclusion that our targeted audience is 14 and older. They also tend to be more men than women listen to this type of music. Knowing the age range we decided to spread our social media presence through Instagram and twitter. We also created a website where the audience can find information about the band, we post daily blogs, merch is on display, links to our social media accounts, our music video is also on it, and the follower can hear some of the music.
My group created a six step marketing plan. The first step would be to introducing the artist in a bar. This bar would be The House of Blues. The Second Step would be that the Damian Zane (the artist) attends radio talk shows, late night and morning shows. Such as BBC 1, Good Morning America, The Late Late Show with James Corden, and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Then we would go to step 3 which is that Damian Zane will perform in different music festivals like: Coachella and Lollapalooza. Step 4 leads to Damian Zane opening up with Muse and Red Hot Chilli Pepper. Step 5 proceeds to going on tour. The tour will be around the United States. There will be merchandise available at each show. Each show will in famous cities like Seattle, Los Angeles, New York, and Houston. Our last Step involves Damian Zane making his presence known in video games like Playstation and Xbox.
I believe that this project contributed greatly to the way I’m going to compose my portfolio project. I now know what it takes to build a platform for a new up and coming artist. I learned how to work with a big group that contributing ideas, we listened to each others perspective, and understood what was the best decision for the group as whole. I liked this portfolio project because it also enable me to understand how music was created and how it was distributed by a well known company. I believe that because of the portfolio project i am ready to compose a marketing strategy and distribution strategy. I have also learned many great techniques in order to make a great music video for the viewers to enjoy.
